Camping and Climbing TEEN Getaway

Join us for a climbing getaway! Whether you’ve been climbing for years or are completely new to the sport, this 4-day course designed for ages 14-16, will provide many new and challenging experiences. We will spend our days exploring new terrain, learning about the ecosystem, and improving climbing techniques on various rock types. Our evenings will be spent around camp where participants will play games, assist with chores, and share stories.

Course instruction will encourage teambuilding, decision-making, and leadership in a small co-ed group environment. We suggest participants come prepared to be flexible and understand the importance of working together. We will spend time driving in a van, cooking in groups, and sharing tents. In addition to climbing and camping, we will also practice journaling so we can learn about ourselves and recognize how we can benefit from community support.

Ages: 14-16 years old.

Fee: $480 CMC members or $490 non-members. Includes transportation during course, camping and climbing gear use, meals and snacks.

Indoor and outdoor climbing instruction for youth with little or no climbing experience, but lots of interest! This five-day course focuses on teambuilding, decision-making, and the basics of rock climbing. Participants will learn about outdoor safety, equipment, knot tying, belaying, and rappelling in a small, supportive environment. Five day format includes two days of indoor climbing and three days of outdoor climbing. Maximum 12 participants and
minimum 6.

Course meets Mon. - Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in downtown Golden with daily field trips to local open space parks. Drop-off and pick-up is at the AMC.

Ages: 11-15 years old.

Do you want to gain experience on real rock and learn new techniques? This 5-day course is catered to youth with an interest in outdoor climbing and achieving personal goals. The course content will encourage 'challenge by choice' as individuals work at advancing strength and technique on various rock types. Participants will engage in a teambuilding activities and review basic skills on Day 1 at the American Mountaineering Center indoor wall. On days two through five, we will travel to different locations to improve skills, practice techniques, and try a multi-pitch climb led by trained staff (weather permitting). Previous climbing experience is recommended. Maximum 12 participants and minimum 6.

Advanced Rock Climbing

This 5-day course was designed for youth who have taken a previous Intermediate Rock course. Our individualized course instruction will introduce the physics behind climbing through movement and gear placement. Participants will learn the basics of anchor building, practice a multi-pitch climb led by trained staff, and understand the skills needed to become 'independent' climbers. Previous climbing experience is required. Maximum 8 participants and minimum 4.

Course meets Monday- Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in downtown Golden with daily field trips to local open space parks. Drop-off and pick-up is at the AMC.

Ages: 13-16 years old.

Fee: $420 CMC members or $430 non-members. Includes transportation during course, gear use, and snacks.
