Welcome to the El Pueblo Group - Colorado Mountain Club web page!  El Pueblo Group

The El Pueblo Group of the Colorado Mountain Club is a local chapter providing outdoor experiences in southern and southeastern Colorado.   Hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are our most popular activities.  We also offer biking, camping, backpacking, downhill skiing, and exploratory adventures that fit all skill levels.

The group was formed in 1962 and has a proud history of exploring the mountains, plains and canyons of our region.  We currently have about 78 members and offer outdoor activities almost every weekend of the year.  The past several years we’ve done an informal 6 mile survey hike of Mason Gulch, Wet Mountains, after the 2005 burn.   We also offer an annual cross-country ski school and continue our tradition of participating in the annual President’s Day weekend ski and snowshoe getaway at the historic Pitkin Hotel/Hostel in central Colorado.

We hold several social and educational functions each year including a potluck dinner and monthly meetings with entertaining guest speakers.  The monthly meetings are held the first Friday of most months at 7 PM at Ascension Episcopal Church (in the social hall immediately west of chapel), located on the corner of 18th Street and Grand Avenue in Pueblo’s old North Side neighborhood.  Meetings begin with an informative presentation, followed by refreshments, socializing and a short business meeting.

Our trips are social, stimulating and sometimes challenging.  Our leaders are experienced, knowledgeable, reliable and friendly.  We welcome people of all ages and abilities to participate in activities and trips.  So, if you enjoy the outdoors as much as we do, please consider joining us on a trip in nearby forests or at a monthly presentation  We have a little something for everyone – whether you are an experienced outdoor enthusiast, a quiet explorer, or simply want to enjoy the outdoors with your family.  Local members will happily answer questions, assure you that you are signing up for a trip appropriate for your experience, and help you sign up to become a member.  We can be reached at 719-334-1025.  For formal schedule information, please contact Membership Services at 1-800-633-4417 or office@cmc.org.
