Welcome to the Colorado Mountain Club's On-Line Trip Leadership Training.
Although each Group has different procedures for becoming a trip leader, all CMC leaders must follow CMC’s policies and procedures and use the State Safety and Leadership Manual as a guide for leading trips.
This training is designed so all CMC leaders will understand these core foundations to leading trips with the CMC.

- Knows the basic CMC organizational structure.
- Knows the CMC trip policies.
- Knows acceptable and unacceptable behaviors of a leader.
- Knows 4 types of liability protection for a CMC Leader.
- Can fill out waiver; knows how to submit after trip.
- Knows what to look for in advance of trip—especially weather.
- Knows what to take and to expect of participants. Knows ten essentials and why they are important.
- Ensures that each participant is qualified, aware, and knows what to bring.
- Knows LNT principles and guidelines for the specific area and commits to following and teaching them.
- Knows responsibilities of leaders at the meeting place.
- Ensures that participants have everything, and know what to expect.
- Knows what to do and be aware of once the trip starts.
- What should be done back at the TH and before leaving the parking area.
- Know generally what to do and who to contact (during emergency and afterwards).
- Knows what not to do.
- Knows reason to fill out trip report form; knows how to do it.
